| Dos
Amigos Medical/Dental Missions is
the vision of a group of physicians, dentists,
medical assistants and other compassionate folks.
Each
year a trip is made into the rain forest of Belize, Central
America. They work in make-shift clinics treating the Mayan
Indians that live in small villages in the Toledo District
of Southern Belize. Although medical and dental care is
available in Belize, it is too expensive and inaccesible
to people in the remote towns and villages.
The
most recent entourage in consisted of more than twenty volunteers
led by Dr. Joseph Lindsay and Dr. Mike Guevara. They adventured
to Belize during Easter Break, 2001. Their clinic based
in a Community Center in the Toledo District hosted hundreds
of locals who lined up to have wounds dressed and cavities
filled.
The
hum and bustle of the clinic is frequently punctuated by
the laughter of children playing outside and the cries of
the children inside, timid in the examination chairs.
The
long days in the clinics are rewarded by trips to local
recreation and sights. A day at a local swimming hole is
perfect relaxation. Another day is spent exploring a the
ruins of an ancient Mayan city.
Dos
Amigos Medical/Dental Missions is a Christian ministry.
Sharing the abundant gifts and skills God has given to each
team member is core to the philosophy of Dos Amigos.
Each day is welcomed and dismissed with group worship and
thanksgiving and personal recommitment. |
